Van Gogh – Sprig of Flowering Almond Poster

Vincent van Gogh painted *Sprig of Flowering Almond in a Glass* in March 1888, shortly after settling in Arles. The artist, who had come to Provence hoping for warm weather, found the city unexpectedly covered in snow; nevertheless, the almond trees had bloomed early. Van Gogh brought this flowering branch into his room and painted it in a glass; thus, the few white flowers that appeared in the middle of winter became, for him, the first sign of the spring he had been seeking in the South. The fact that he painted the same branch twice shows just how deeply this small and delicate image left an impression on him.
