Van Gogh-Wheatfield with Partridge Poster

Vincent van Gogh painted *Wheatfield with Partridge* in the Paris area in June–July 1887. During this period, he was moving away from his dark Dutch palette and, influenced by Impressionist and Neo-Impressionist painters, began to use color much more boldly. In the painting, the sky occupies nearly half the canvas, while the small partridge taking flight from among the wheat imparts a sudden sense of movement to the entire scene. Interestingly, this painting held a special place in the Van Gogh family’s collection; it was one of the few works that were not put up for sale in later years and were intended to remain in the family.
